Opening Chapter
Above the clouds, the Spirit Tournament is louder than weather.
The Sky Arena hangs there like a challenge—stone platforms stitched together by bridges and banners, crowds packed shoulder-to-shoulder along rails that should not exist at this height. Wind tears at everything: flags, hair, tempers. Far below, the world is a soft quilt of fields and rooftops and rivers. Up here, the air tastes thin and sharp, like it was filtered through lightning.
Kai stands at the very back of a line that looks like it was drawn with a ruler: fighters in bright uniforms, old masters in simple robes, a few grim-faced mercenaries who carry their confidence like weapons. Every few seconds someone ahead flares their Ki—just a flicker, just enough to remind everyone else what kind of contest this is.
Kai tries not to stare.
