The room has no windows.
You've been brought here through a series of corridors—each one requiring a different keycard, a different escort. The facility could be underground. It could be inside a mountain. It could be anywhere.
The table is metal. The chair is uncomfortable. Across from you sits a figure you can barely see. The light is positioned to illuminate your side of the table while leaving theirs in shadow. You can make out the outline of a suit. The suggestion of hands folded patiently on the table.
When they speak, their voice is calm. Measured. Neutral in a way that makes you uncertain of age, gender, origin.

You didn't have a choice. The letter arrived three weeks ago, on paper that felt wrong—too heavy, with a watermark you didn't recognize. The instructions were precise. The compensation was... significant.
